Todd Materazzi > Eastern Shore, Maryland

The Eastern Shore consists of the east-side of the major part of the center of the Chesapeake Bay and the Susquehanna River. Commercial east-west ties between Delaware towns and Maryland towns were culturally significant in Colonial and Early American periods despite the border line (which largely cut through woods and swamps). To this day, rivers and streams coexist with ongoing commerce and are a reminder of the peaceful flatland’s that still exist.

Abandoned railroads are commonly found across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge; the Eastern Shore of Maryland. The Eastern Shore is historically known for its farming and fishing. After the Civil War, local companies built rail branch lines to link commerce and business in Philadelphia, Virginia and Delaware.

Baltimore city preserves a strong hold in the steel, imports and the business of traditional manufacturing.

The Port of Baltimore has become a cornerstone to Baltimore and the East Coast. The railroads, ships, carriers and adjacent fishing from the Chesapeake Bay will fuel the economic recovery. The Port will be a big asset to the many lives, families and businesses that tirelessly work in the industrial parks of Baltimore.

During pitch dark conditions; time lapsed photography of 20 seconds at f/9 produced the effect that the photographer desired. The incoming waves became a nice, artistic glaze. The only light present was a moon rising over the horizon and a small collection of lights a few hundred yards down shore.

This church building itself has a neoclassical style with brick walls painted white to give it the appearance of wood. Inside there are cast iron columns for support. While the interior has been remodeled several times, the exterior of the church has never been altered.

Moonlight Serenity 15 was taken on a clear evening with a few overhanging clouds. Upon close examination, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge is positioned on the horizon and a meteor shower is falling from the atmosphere.

In 1900, 45 cottage lighthouses were built around the Chesapeake Bay; the great estuary formed by the lower course of the Susquehanna River. The two sides of the Chesapeake are known in Maryland as the Eastern Shore and the Western Shore. Baltimore, on the Western Shore, is the state's largest city and a major port. In a few cases modern lights are mounted on the original screw pile platform. Please admire the structure, form and function of these lighthouses while enjoying the view of the Chesapeake Bay.

The Moonlight Serenity series will take you on an evening tour of various shorelines of the largest estuary in the United States, the Chesapeake Bay. We can protect the bay through education, implementation of state watershed plans, improve policy that stop polluted runoff in cities, and ensure federal investment in Chesapeake Bay watershed restoration and protection. If we volunteer, do a small part in the protection of the largest estuary in the United States, the Chesapeake Bay will remain beautiful by day and night.

The Moonlight Serenity series will take you on an evening tour of various shorelines of the largest estuary in the United States, the Chesapeake Bay. The federal and state government is supporting the restoration and protection of public beaches. The cost of restoration include measures to protect the beaches from erosion, overuse from the public and pollution. To support the fragile ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay is our top priority.
